Skin picking - June 28th 2012, 09:39 PM

Since I was really little I've been picking the skin off the soles of my feet. If there's a bit of skin coming loose then I have to pick it off, even if it really hurts. I've done it in other places too but most often on my feet. My toes usually have several layers of skin missing, or are in the process of healing that damage. I know the simple answer is to just stop but I can't. It's something I've always done and it feels like something I need to do. It's not the same as wanting to hurt myself. It's just that if there's loose skin I have to pick it, and it'll drive me crazy if I don't.

Does anyone else get this, or know what I should do? I've noticed that if I've picked at my feet to the point where I have to limp, my knee starts hurting from walking badly. So it's not doing my knee any good either :/

Have you tried wrapping the areas that you pick the most in bandages or something like that when you go to do it, you can't cause they are there? It might help you stop if you realise there is something stopping you from doing it, if there isn't, you'll continue to do it out of habit and it'll be harder to stop.

Hey there,

I'm going to admit that I do this too. I feel the same as you, I HAVE to pick it. My feet both look weird now because of it.
Not any advice, but just to let you know that you're not the only one! I think this is the first time i've ever told anyone either!
