my glasses keep getting thicker - July 6th 2012, 07:03 PM

MALE AND FEMALE ADVICE WELCOMED, I ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE WRONG BUTTON AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO UNDO IT.
so, i'm 16 and i've worn glasses since i was 7, and every year my prescription gets stronger so my glasses get thicker. if anyone here knows about prescriptions, i just got a new one and it's -9.25 and -9.75. a few of my classmates tease me about being blind, etc., but the thing is this: i like getting more nearsighted and i like getting thicker glasses. i don't do anything stupid like try to get stronger glasses than i need, but i enjoy the process of being examined and getting new glasses and i want the lenses to get stronger. does anyone else have this feeling? i need a little support. my new glasses are going to be much thicker (current ones are -7.75 and -8.50) and i just know they're going to set off more teasing. even if you don't feel the way i do about glasses but just have a strong prescription, i would like to chat with you.

Hey, if their teasing you, just ignore them because they aren't worth your time. I kind of know what you mean, the satisfying feeling of better glasses, sometimes in new styles. I remember when I got my current glasses, it was just a really awesome feeling putting them on the for the first time. It's defiantly something to look forward to. - I've also had glasses since middle school, but from grade 6. I've only really been teased once, the old stupid "four eyes"...

I enjoy wearing my glasses too, but I guess it's because they are more or less part of like, my face, it's like I'm missing my nose when I'm not wearing them.

Re: Thick Glasses - July 7th 2012, 04:39 AM

I'm at -6 in far and -5 near. I use bifocals. I actually love buying new glasses each year, because with our healthcare plan I usually only pay $25 dollars, and it's good to change the frames and get slightly stronger lenses each year as it makes things much clearer.

For really thick lenses it's better to get thick framed glasses. If your frame is thin and modern and your lenses are huge and bulging, it's going to be a little silly. Go for the "hipster" ultra thick frames.

Me too. A lot of my friends have contacts, but I feel happier with glasses. They're just a big part of who I am, and my personal appearance.

I get annoyed about it as well, it's like my vision is continuing to deteriorate. :\ But glasses, and overall being able to see, makes me feel stable and secure, and although it can be a pain in the butt, it's not the end of the world. Glasses wearers unite!

i guest i'm a little masochistic about it. if your vision got worse, the eye dr turns the dial on the refraction machine and a stronger lens clicks into place. i like to imagine it as the thicker lens permanently locking into place and making my eye like a prisoner. and then an even thicker one replacing it, and so on.
