Question Nothing Sounds Good (Triggering, maybe?) - January 11th 2009, 04:19 PM

I haven't been eating very much lately. It's not that I don't want to, but I just don't feel like it. In the mornings, I may wake up hungry, but by the time I go to eat something nothing sounds good. At school, I'll start to get really hungry but when I go to eat, I find that I just can't really. The only thing I'll eat is like some carrots and slices of apple. And then when I get home from school I'm really hungry again. But then again I can't find anything that sounds good, so I end up nibbling on something and then just leaving it.
What it kinda reminds me of is after I had the flu for a week about 2 years ago, I lost intrest in so many foods I used to love. But this is a little different because I haven't been sick recently and I've lost intrest in way more things than I did when I had the flu. Usually I can only find 1 thing at a time that sounds good if I can find anything that sounds good at all. I can't think of why the hell this would be happening. I don't know exactly how much weight I've lost because the last time I weighed myself before today was months ago, but today when I did I was 5 pounds lighter than the last time.
I just don't know why I'm not feeling like eating. Sometimes I want to eat because I'm kinda hungry but I can't think of anything that sounds good enough to eat. It's really wierd. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

I swear I'm just getting over the same exact thing. I'm not sure what it is, but my advice is simple. Ignore it and eat anyway. You may feel nauseated and not good about it, but please do it. I had ended up going near a month of these poor eating habits and loss of appetite but it wasn't until very recently that I just started sucking it up and getting my eating back on track due to a very close call. Last week my blood sugar dropped to a dangerously low level spontaneously during school credited to this habit. I nearly passed out. No warning or anything, it just happened. And it was scary. Malnutrcian once severe enough can cause permanent brain and physical damage. I almost found out the hard way. Please bite the bullet and eat regularly!

I love the name of honour more than I fear death.

Has your taste been affected at all?

I would suggest experimenting with cooking. You can find something online that looks good and make it and then eat it? Sometimes around your house there seems like there is nothing to eat (happens in my house a lot) but there is a lot to eat its just having to make it or being in the mood for it.

If you live close enough to a store whenever you are in the mood for something for a day or so go and get it and eat it. If thats not an option ask to go, or go to the store and pick 10 things that look good. There should be something you want.

If you still are having a lot of problems talk to your family doctor and see what he/she recommends. Past that look into finding a therapist.

I think these are all good places to get started!
