omg, this is so embarrasing! - April 13th 2009, 09:26 PM

ok, so i'm mortified, but i NEED help, so here goes... the other day, i found a flea on my boyfriend's chest after I'd been laying on him, thinking it was just a random flea, i squished it and tried to ignore it. then, today, i found a flea on my bed I caught it and put it in an empty water bottle so i could look at it closely to make sure thats what it is, and it defiantly is a flea. So.... Two fleas have been found, is this an infestation? what should i do? will washing all my bedding and clothes on high heat kill the fleas and eggs? do i need to put the treatment (after looking online, i decided to use tea tree oil) just on my head or all over? please help i'm sooooooooooo grossed out right now!!! I just feel dirty and unclean....

also- i think i got them from one of my dogs- i live in a dorm, but i go home on weekends and guess the nasty creatures hopped on then.
and- should i tell my roommate? is it possible she has them too now (or that maybe i got them from her) we have a tile floor in our room, and our clothes or bodies don't touch.

yeah, wash al your bedding and that, cause it should kill the eggs and stuff. And treat your animals, and to be safe I'd wash my whole body in the tea tree oil treatment stuff.
Take care

You could wash with something that has tea tree oil in, i'm sure there'll be some shower gel and I know you can get tea tree shampoo. I think if you make sure you've washed, all your bedding/cushion covers have been washed, carpet is hoovered (you can get flea powder for your carpet) then you should be alright. Also, if you do have animals then make sure to treat them too. The only problem is that the fleas could actually be from your boyfriend.

Even if he hasn't been in your bed or anything, if you're convinced they were fleas they could have still transferred onto your bed sheets or cushions when you sit down or whatever. If you first noticed them with your boyfriend there is a likelihood that he may have the fleas too/they may have transferred to him, so i'd just bring it to his attention

You could put your pillow covers and stuffed animals in the washing machine
don't worry about the bugs, if everythings properly washed then they should be gone.

You're welcome. If you only noticed a few then the problem shouldn't be that big anyway, but with all of the cleaning/washing things the problem should be gone. Try not to worry about it

If you are worried that they could still be in your house you can by 'flea bombs' from home improvement stores. You'll have to leave the house (make sure to tell your room mate and take all animals out of the house as well). That should really kill all of the fleas. You also might want to talk to your vet about getting some flea medication for your dog. It can also work as a preventative measure because the medicine stays in the blood stream. If you still notice your dog scratching a lot you can give him flea baths with a special dog shampoo every so often. I hope this helps.

Lots of love <3 Mimi

i can tell you there not from your boyfriend.there are no visible and only a couple subcutaneoushuman fleas in north america. they are probably cat fleas vwhich can also infest dogs. they breed in the animal hosts bedding and generally do not stay long on humans though they will bite them. as longs as your not onb the east coast or near the rockies these fleas aqlso dont have much potential to transmit pathogens. vacuum vacuum vacuum, flea bath or use a product on your pets (program or advantage work well and wash your bets bedding and sleeping areas)
