Suddenly Hungry and Exhausted all day? - October 24th 2012, 11:02 PM

Lately, I've been *so* hungry all day; which is extremely abnormal (ED issues, so I'm not one to eat this much or even normally need to eat this much). It doesn't seem like I've gained anything (fingers crossed) and I exercise every day.

I've also been exhausted. I had a whole sleeping routine that worked perfectly, and I would be asleep by 10-11pm. Now I'm sleeping around 8:30 because I get so tired. In fact, I'd almost fallen asleep at 6:30-7:30, but I kept myself awake for fear that sleeping that early would screw up my sleeping schedule. I am definitely getting enough sleep, and I'm not one to stay up late on multiple occasions.

My brain has also been going completely blank and feeling like I'm going to pass out. It happened when I was with my friend today, and we figured it was just because I was hungry. I just had some pudding, some cheddar-bacon "potato skins" (ugh, I hate eating stuff like that) and then left-over pizza, and I still feel hungry! But I'm not dizzy anymore. On top of that, I also get kind of shaky; my legs start feel shaky, usually.

And I'm bouncing my knee more than usual in order to stay focused in class.

So does anybody know what this could be? I'm going to a neurologist in early November, so should I bring this stuff up to them? I am going there because I'm getting pretty bad head issues and nausea.

Oh! Forgot. I usually run about 2 miles a day (I'm a sprinter, so being able to do that is absolutely amazing for me) and recently it's randomly been harder for me to keep going; which really doesn't make sense!

Well from what you said you ate, it's no wonder you are still hungry! Those are not healthy foods and do not provide your body with the nutrients you need.

I would try adding a lot of protein to your diet (poultry, meat, FISH is an excellent one). More meats. Add in some veggies and fruits for extra nutrition.

See if that helps any. I know when I used to eat only junk food when I was little. I was ALWAYS hungry. Same with fast food. So my mom started cooking at home with meat, potatoes, green beans/peas/corn/artichiokes, and fruits.

I would say even just a tablespoon of chopped fruit or veggies is better than none. Pizza and other items are fine for every now and then, but not constantly. If your diet consists of cereal, poptarts, pizza, crackers, cheese, more pizza or fast food, etc. You will feel hungry more frequently.

The first thing that comes to mind is anaemia - you know, lack of iron.
Because you have ED issues, low blood sugar could be contributing as well.

You should probably see a doctor and explain this to them, most things like you described, doctors can diagnose and treat with relative simplicity.

You will probably have to start eating regularly and healthily though. If necessary, you might ask your doctor if you could get some extra support dealing with your ED to help you eat and sleep normally.
