Exclamation Literal heart pain - October 25th 2012, 04:19 AM

For a really long time I have gotten twinges of pain on the left side of my chest. Like where my heart is.
Lately though they have been a lot worse. I had a terrible one in class and was just grasping my chest cuz it hurt so bad. And the night before I had one that made me sick to my stomach with pain. It lasted about two hours. I'm really scared!
I've been trying to figure out if this is happening due to the large amount of stress I have. Or my "poor" eating habits. Or what. But it really hurts and I'm really scared but I can't tell a teacher or a doctor so I don't know what to do now...
Any ideas on how to help it and why I'm having it?

Honestly, I think the best thing to do is get yourself to a doctor pretty damn quick, my lovely. We aren't medical professionals, and so we can't say what's going on here.

Eating disorders strain your heart something crazy. I know it's terrifying to reach out, but this is something you need to do. Is there a friend you could take for support to the doctors?

Wish you the best <3

Very few friends know about my eating problems. It's not a disorder anymore. I'm too fat for that. In part I want it back just to get down to where I would long to be. My BMI is the low end of average. So I don't think the strain is from that. But I really dont know...

I agree - you really should go see a doctor about this right away. Chest pain is never a good thing, but especially since what you're experiencing is so painful, and though I'm not a professional, I would say it could be serious. So yeah, go to your doctors or to the hospital if it happens again.

Take care of yourself and I wish you the best!

I experience the same thing from the sound of it. Is it hard to take deep breaths when it happens? I always become pretty immobile because any movement makes it worse.
I visited the doctor about it about a year ago, and they said there are a few possibilities as to what it is, and it would be best to come in while its happening. I've yet to be able to though, because it always happens at inconvenient times such as late at night when I'm trying to sleep, when I'm at school, or on Sunday when they're closed.
They said it could be that my lung is catching on my ribs. That's pretty much they're best guess as to what it is at this point.
Also, your heart is in the middle of your chest, not on the left.

Nicole: that sounds painful... I have no clue if mine is the same problem or not. But yea. It gets hard to breath and it really hurts. I could force myself to move hen I get them. But it's easier not to move much.
When I was doing research into it I did see that the heart is in the middle. But for heart attacked they say the pain is on the left for some reason. So even though ik it isn't that. It's still and intimidating connection.

Forgetmenot: I am going to a doctor the day before thanksgiving. I may voice my concern to her then and also tell her why I haven't told my parents. I am very much like my mother where I ignore things until they make me unable to function on barely any level. Really bad habit ik but I've been chided for getting worried that I have pneumonia when it's just a cold and stuff like that.
I dontthink mine would last long enough for me to go in to the doctor while it's still happening. Atleast not usually.

Re: Literal heart pain - October 28th 2012, 04:32 PM

Well the (sort of) good news is that I've been getting these for as long as I can remember so I'm fairly certain it isn't anything dangerous. So while the pain might be in the same location as a heart attack would be, they aren't the same.
