Ooch...pulled muscle in foot or something?? - February 19th 2013, 06:52 PM

Hah I'm not sure how possible it is, but I did something to my right foot today that feels like I've pulled a muscle in it, sort of at the right, on top, nearly under my ankle. It's made it quite sore to walk, but not bad enough to have to go to the doctor!! If anyone's had this before, is there anything I can do for it - massage or ice or anything, that will help??

Gymnastics coach to the rescue!

Well, sort of. We used to find that kids new to competitive gymnastics would often get foot cramps from pointing their toes all the time, because they weren't used to it. What we did was get them to straighten their leg, and pull their toes back towards their knee - this forces all the muscles along the base of your foot to lengthen, and relieves cramps in that area, so it might work for you.

I'm a bit confused though, you said the top of your foot, but under your ankle?
Is it possible you rolled it and forgot about it?

If it's a little bit swollen (stand in front of a mirror and compare it to your other ankle, or stand in front of someone else and ask which ankle is bigger), then it's likely you rolled it but it wasn't major so you forgot. In that case, a light support bandage such as tubigrip to prevent re-rolling it whilst it heals, and icing it when it's most painful are the best ideas.

Protip: if you cannot hop without it hurting, then you rolled it
