Ears That Won't Pop - May 25th 2013, 12:44 AM

Okay, so I'm still going through a nasty sinus infection from all of the pollen outside and such. I keep feeling this awful amount of pressure pushing into my ears, and it almost hurts.
I keep trying to yawn, chew gum, etc., but nothing works. This pressure is affecting my hearing, and it's been nearly 5 days.

Any suggestions, other than going to the doctor?

Constantly lost and found~

Try standing on your head. It won't pop the ear, but it may relieve some of the pressue temporarily.

This is from my own personal experience, I am not even providing second hand medical advice.

Oh, God, happens to me when I get colds. It's the worst.
Try holding your nose and blowing (but not too hard!) Just keep gently blowing until your ears pop. It might not be an instant cure; never was for me; but it might relieve just some of the pressure. Also, you can tip your head back and just open and close your mouth. That only worked for me sometimes, but it might work for you. Hope you feel better.

Ah! I had this all last summer. It was the first time I was affected by seasonal allergies and I pretty much got knocked out by it. I never found anything to help, sadly enough, but at one point the pressure was too much and I had to see a doctor. I don't know what they did/what they gave me but it ended up working.
This is a tough one to give an "at home remedy" to since it's usually caused by fluid in the tubes of the ear and there isn't much you can do about that without medication or until it clears up.
Feel better though!

As others have said, usually your ears won't pop because of all of the fluid buildup in your ear tubes (great medical terminology). Try making a yawning motion throughout the day to see if that helps to move it around a little. Also lemon tea is always good for blocked sinuses.

You might find that you have an inner ear infection, so I'd go see your doc and see if there's anything he can help with... even if it's just allergy pills.

Good luck!
