Losing weight just around stomach...?? - September 15th 2013, 01:42 PM

I've always been happy with my slim figure and appreciative of the fact that I'm fortunate enough to mostly be able to eat what I want. However despite being skinny, I have this little belly that I can't get rid of... I think it's fairly common on slim girls but I hate it. What is the best way to just lose the fat on my stomach?? It's made me so self-conscious about wearing slim-fitting clothes... I get paranoid people will think I'm pregnant!

I also can't talk to any of my female friends about it as they'll roll their eyes and tell me I should appreciate my figure - I really do, but I really want to get rid of my belly.

Ab workouts are probably the best (sit-ups, crunches, etc). I have the same issues with my friends , I absolutely loathe my thighs but they say they're fine, learn to love yourself, blah blah blah.
It would be good to talk with a doctor as well; incase there's other exercises you could do, or if there's any diet chances you could make.
Good luck

Hey
A) I'm sure you're gorgeous, but I won't dwell on it.
B) If you're slim, you probably want to work on toning your stomach which will make it smooth/flat/hard - good exercises include planking, crunches, sit-ups, leg ups (lay on your back and lift your legs, keeping them straight), I recommend googling more. Make sure you tone different areas of abs, and don't just do the same exercise all the time. Work up reps, start gentle, then add more slowly.
C) I doubt this will be an issue for you, but if you have a layer of fat over your abs they may not be visible no matter how much strength training you do - add in some cardio to burn off that layer if you don't see any results.
Hope I helped c:

You can't do spot fixes. And furthermore, stomachs are not supposed to be flat anyway. That little "belly" you have, I assume is below your belly button and above where your pubes start, more or less. (Sorry I don't know the word for the area.) Anyway, due to the way the muscles are formed there, even people with abs do not have flat stomachs when standing. It sticks out a bit. And you may not be happy with it, but honestly as you sound otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry too much.

Anyway . . . since you're asking for advice and not reassurance that you're normal, the best way to lose fat is a combination of cardio and resistance training. Although all the exercises listed above will increase the tone of your abdominal muscles, the fact remains that you cannot spot fix and just exercising a certain muscle group genuinely only increases the strength of that muscle group . . . you've got to do more.

It's also possible that what you're seeing isn't fat. Just more how you're shaped. How everybody is shaped on the underneath.

And, finally, even though you hate it . . . somebody else might be in love with it. It's a minor thing to me, and I know it's causing you problems, but if you're living healthily and it's not changing then perhaps acceptance really is the answer.

I always about to say the same thing. You can't spot-treat. There is now way to lose fat in a particular area. You can increase your muscle tone in that area, but nothing is guaranteed. My best advice is to eat well, exercise all over (meaning cardio + strength training) and see what your body does. If there is extra fat there, you will lose it. But your body knows best.
