Random back pain? - October 22nd 2013, 07:52 PM

So yesterday my back started to irritate me a little bit. It's nothing I haven't felt before. I was in gym when it started, so I was standing all class. When we laid down to start crunches, my back felt better. It didn't really hurt for the rest of the day. It didn't hurt this morning either. But I was sitting in physics, and it just starting hurting out of nowhere. Like, it hurt. It felt really tight and weird. Almost like how you feel when you knock the wind out of yourself. It hurt to walk, so I went to the nurse and laid down for a few minutes. It was perfectly fine after that.

What do you think caused this? The nurse said it was probably because my book bag was so heavy. But I've been carrying around heavy book bags for 2 and a half years and nothing has happened to me. I think it's because of my poor posture, and because I keep sitting in weird positions. Nothing has ever really happened before though. I don't want this to happen again! It really hurt! (The pain was in the small of my back sort of. Lower back basically. Like, if you put your hands behind you without stretching them, that's where it was.)

Could be from a variety of things and a heavy book bag is one along with improper lifting or standing for long periods of times. I would look into lightening your bookbag load and make sure you use two straps. I would also look into back strengthening exercises. What type of shoes do you have? Are they supportive?

(Sorry for not replying sooner!)
I don't think my book bag is that heavy, but that could be it. I also usually use two straps. I usually wear combat boots, and I think they are supportive enough. I've been wearing them since the beginning of last year.

I haven't had any pain before that, or after that. Maybe it was just a freak thing?
