Unhappy Wisdom Teeth - May 12th 2009, 03:19 AM

I am getting my wisdom teeth out on Wednesday. I do NOT handle pain/procedures/doctors/dentists/etc. well.....so I am already freaking out! My dentist knows that and is really supportive and helpful, and prescribed Valium already I am not getting put under--my dentist feels (and I totally trust him) that because my teeth are not impacted, and because the oral surgeon is so good, the entire thing will take a maximum of 15 minutes and it's not worth going through anesthesia and making it a real "surgery". So instead I will have general anesthesia, Valium, and laughing gas.

I am looking for tips, advice, etc. NOTHING that will scare me!!!! I just want to know what is helpful to do before/during/after that will help minimize pain and discomfort, etc. Anyone??

Hey
I had mine out over the summer. It was fast and I didnt feel a thing. Just make sure to avoid messing with where the teeth were and try and eat softer foods for the first few days after it. It will be fine there is nothing to worry about.

I survived....definitely wasn't as bad as I had thought! But now the novocaine has worn off and I am in soooo much pain. And I'm still bleeding, 4 hours later but it definitely could be worse. I'm surviving on pudding and jello for now and am napping on and off!

I got seven teeth pulled a week and a half ago, it hurt a lot afterwards so I just laid down for a while, you should definitely be prepared to take time off of school, I was out for about a week!

Just relax, if nothing else, think of it like this: getting wisdom teeth pulled gives you ever excuse to do nothing but kick back and relax for a day or two.

I had mine pulled last summer and I was freaking out beforehand too. It turned out to be the easiest thing. I had a wonderful oral surgeon, and i was only out of school for one day. It honestly did not hurt that bad, I took some advil right when I got home, and took nothing else the rest of the time. Just be careful when you are brushing your teeth.

It took my best friend about a week to fully recover, so don't plan anything.
and by the third day her whole face was swollen and puffy.
But she had all four taken out at the same time.

So far so good. I'm only a little bit swollen and the painkillers have been totally knocking me out so I've been sleeping a lot. But from all the horror stories I've heard from friends and things, I'm in pretty good shape!

Oh gosh my heart goes out to you, I've had problems with my wisdom teeth for about 2 years, they're growing funny and rubbing against my gums. I hope you recover!
