I am sorta fed up - January 28th 2017, 10:58 PM

Last week I went to the walk in clinic as I thought I had strep and pink eye. Turned out it was a viral infection. Was given eye drops. My eyes are fine. My throat and ear are not fine.

My right side of my throat hurts, my ear on my right hurts. Before I used those cough candies, drank water, tea, and took medication to ease the symptoms. It was getting better then all of a sudden my throat hurts and I have uncontrollable coughing. It hurts before I cough. Oh but water or any of the other stuff does not help. It almost feels my throat is closing up and my breathing reduces for air intake. When I am talking my throat is fine then out of nowhere my throat has thing tingling/stinging and I can't talk as I need to cough and my voice is like patchy and my words don't form well.

It was scary cause I could barely breathe and couldn't cough.

Right now it feels okay, I mean it's bothering me but I am not sure. I am scared this will close my throat up. I also don't have tonsils but hey maybe it grew back on my right side? (never had tonsil issues, they removed them cause I had things growing out of them)

I should go back to see a doctor but what will they say? My test came back negative for strep they will tell me to drink more water and rest. I am close of taking mouthfuls of honey and lemon and swallowing it.

I guess what scares me if the fact my throat closes up and getting air in is hard but then I can breathe again.

I am honestly sick and tired of this and I really don't need this right now. I just don't know what to do other than go to a doctor for them to tell me, "drink more water and rest" when I am drinking plenty of water.

Is there anything else I could try? I have no idea what this is because I've never had this happen to me and ive used all my resources just to get relief and all have failed.

Hey Chantal,

I'm sorry that you're still feeling sick! I hate being sick, it is a horrible feeling! Have you considered going back to the clinic? Explain to them that you're still not feeling well even after following the advice that they have given you. There's a lot of other stuff that it could be. I would definitely tell them that you're having trouble breathing too.

Do you have asthma? I have a chronic cough and I tend to feel that way sometimes. Maybe see if a puffer might help? Definitely bring it up to a doctor.

Have you heard of Telehealth? It's a free service we have here in Ontario where you can call a number and then you can talk with a Registered Nurse about your symptoms and how you're feeling. They can then tell you if they believe you should go to the doctor. Here's the link to their website with more information about how it works including their phone number. I have never used this service, but a lot of people who come into our emergency department have.

Definitely keep drinking lots of fluids. Tea with lemon and honey is a good idea, it will help soothe your throat. There's been a nasty virus going on around here, however, I'm not sure if it's up where you live or not.

I hope you start feeling better soon!

Sounds like asthma. Doctor can give you an inhailer to use if that happens again.
