Concussion? - March 6th 2017, 04:45 PM

I didn't know where to put this topic so i put it in the mental health forum. Anyways, I was in gym playing volleyball, where suddenly on the top side of my head i got hit with a volleyball, it hit hard but i didn't feel it/ kinda felt it. After I got hit with the volley ball i felt like really different like my brain felt really weird, also when i'm writing my handwriting is sloppier than usual and i'm writing slow and I usually write fast. i don't know how to describe it but i feel hazey,I'm just wondering is this a concusion? or like just a hit to the head? Cause I read on this article that one of the symptoms of a concussion is feeling dazed and confused. And that a concussion left untreated could cause brain clotting and you could die from a brain clot. I'm kind of worried. I don't want to go to the clinic because the nurse won't do anything, she will just tell me to lie down and that won't fix anything.

it might be a good idea to see a doctor as they say don't take a chance with a head injury

Hey there,

I moved your thread to General Health because I feel it fits better

Concussion can often cause you to have headaches, feel dizzy and sick as well as feel confused. Try to avoid looking up symptoms online and just pay attention to how you feel. If you are concerned about concussion it is best that you speak to a doctor as they may be able to diagnose you and find treatments that help to lessen how you are feeling.

First of all i would suggest not looking up your symptoms online because that can just freak you out and make you think the worse.

As far as the concussion we are not professionals so we cannot tell you if you have one or not. I can say when I got my concussion it wasn't treated until like a week after that i got told I had a concussion. Anyways I had a lot of really bad headaches my eyes would get blurry at times and I would be really dizzy.

I think the best thing is make a doctor appointment and talk to them, or if you are really worried and are having a lot of problems I would go to the ER.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Everyone has different symptoms of a concussion and everyone reacts differently to head injuries. We cannot tell you if it is a concussion or not. If these symptoms lasted over a few hours after the injury, I'd suggest seeing a doctor. It may or may not be a concussion but it is best to get a head injury checked if you are having problems due to it.

I hope this helped and I hope you are okay.

Take care,

Hey there!

Those symptoms do sound concerning since it followed a head injury. We can't say whether or not you have a concussion but if you match a couple of those symptoms then it is better to be safe and see a doctor. If you're convinced the nurse at the clinic won't give you adequate medical attention, could you go to the hospital? You should be able to receive further testing and evaluation to make sure you don't have a concussion. If you don't, then that's wonderful but it is best to be safe just to make sure.

Keep us updated if you can. I hope you feel better soon!

I wouldn't bother with the ER. If you showed up to my ER with those symptoms, we would say "follow up with your PCP. Don't play sports till you see them."

The symptoms can last up to a month. There is no test that can diagnose a concussion. It's based off of reported symptoms. As a minor, they probably would not want to do a CT to expose you to unnecessary radiation.

It is very unlikely you have a blood clot. I have yet to hear of any nurse in any ER I work in being dragged in because a minor died of a blood clot.

I would recommend taking over the counter tylenol or motrin for pain. Follow up with your primary care provider if you are worried and the symptoms persist. They are tracking minors who have head injuries now and sometimes you can be prohibited from playing sports if you have too many head injuries.
