how do you actually lose weight - May 29th 2009, 03:07 AM

so i wanna lose a bit of weight cause ive put on a few pounds and i think ive gone overweight

so how do i do this healthy so ill get toned?

Well, there are a few ways.

Firstly, I would say consult a dietician/personal trainer and have a professional put something together that's custom-designed for you.

The best thing for someone your age to do (in my personal opinion) would be to not worry about gaining weight, exactly, but building muscle.
In order to do that, you have to exercise (naturally), but you also have to eat.

One of the best ways I've heard that can help in weight control is "eat small, eat frequently" - that is, eat 4-6 smaller, nutritious meals throughout the day.

Nix all the sweet stuff/chips/crackers/junk, eat more fruit/nuts and the like - drink plenty of water.

I know it sounds paradoxical - you have to eat MORE, and done correctly you WILL gain weight - but the weight will be muscle, and not fat. (Again, if everything is done correctly).

Ice is absolutely right, this method of eating increases your metabolism which is key to losing weight. I've been eating like this for at least 2 years, it is unbelievably effective. The general rule of thumb is going to be seperating good foods(calories) from bad. Nutrition is definitely a huge interest of mine, I'm a health nut! I'd be happy to help, pm me anytime

there really is no massive secret to losing weight. just eat healthy and exercise. i do agree though, eating small a often is the way to go. don't starve yourself though, if you're hungry then eat, just make sure its something healthy. as for getting toned, theres no real short cut apart from exercise. try something like cycling or running for cardio and then try weights for more definition and muscle building.

hmm..i would help but as a girl im more attuned to losing weight, but for guys its more about putting on muscle.

My brothers does that 'little and often' eating thing, eats lots of protein foods, and doesn eat carbs usually after noon but definitely not after 3.

Then theres all those weights to do and whatnot.

get men's health! i love that magazine (its has thought provoking articles lol)

well eating healthy most of the time(its ok to eat junk food once in a while) and be active most of the time

Hey =)

If you are going to diet make sure you are doing it the healthy way. You have to be balanced and don't deprive yourself of sweet things completely. If you have any questions about diet/losing weight your doctor would be the best person to consult.

At the moment I am eating heathily but at the weekends I have a "treat day" where I can eat something that's quite high in fat. I find that I have to have an incentive in order to lose a few pounds.

Remember to not deprive yourself. I cannot stress this enough.

whatever you were eating before, let's say a plate of rice, dived it by 3, drink lots and lots of water, eat fruits, excercise alot

I think the best thing to do would be check out with your doctor whether you need to lose weight if they think you do they will be able to advice you on this. But the best way is eating healthily and exercising regularly
