UTI? - January 25th 2009, 02:29 PM

So, the last few days.

I'm busting for the loo. But i go...then realise I didnt actually need to go...but then 20mins later its the same again.

I'm meant to be on my period at the moment. But it only came on for a day.

Nothing else out of the ordinary. Though really bad stabbing pains in my sides.

Any ideas?

Oh yeh. Kinda embarresing but...I'm kinda struggling to keep control of bladder. Like maybe twice a day, i'll leek. But it's not urine. It's just water. And only a little bit. But yeh. Now i feel stupid...blushes

It could be a UTI, it could be an STD?

If it's a UTI, you should go to the doctor.. they have antibiotics that will flush it out. Drink lots of liquids and I heard cranberry juice helps too. I don't think a UTI interferes with your menstrual cycle, though.. dunno about that one.

Could it be an STD?

STD? UMM I hope not...

I'm sexually active. But with the same guy. Who was a virgin before me. Would be unlikely for something to randomly happen, after 4months of sleeping together

It sounds more along the lines of either a UTI or some kind of urinary infection. Best thing you can do is schedule an appointment with your doctor.

Until you can get to your doctor, consider taking either cranberry pills or drinking cranberry juice, cranberry helps fight the bacteria quite well.

Yep. Sounds unlikely to me, too =P

Drink lots of fluids including cranberry juice and talk to your doctor about getting on antibiotics.

I have a doctors appointment today anway, so I shall mention it. Kind of embarrasing though. I mean. Answering questions is fine. But as long as they dont want to see...or things....coz i'd die...

Maybe i should book with the nurse for another time

drink as much water as you can. i drank a few litres when this happened to me and it went away literally within a few hours. if that fails, go to the doctor.

Re: UTI? - January 26th 2009, 01:39 PM

It sounds like a UTI to me, I get them constantly cos of my bad kidneys.
You could have mentioned it to your doctor but that is too late now. When you go to the Nurse they won't need to look, all she will need is a urine sample, I have found it is best to take it with you before hand because it saves time and it is difficult to pee under pressure. There will be blood there in the urine because of your period so make sure she knows it is because of your period so she can give you the right dose of antibiotics.

Also the nurse probably won't ask but you don't have to tell her how you got this because there are a lot of possible reasons, not washing properly, periods, not wiping properly after the toilet even just wearing tight clothes.

So yeah drink water or cranberry juice and if you can get Cystitis relief sachets which you dissolve in water and drink and they rehydrate you and neutralize you urine which helps the pain but it won't clear completely until you get antibiotics.

Thanks for the advice.

I always thought a UTI was accompanied with pain, itching, smell, discharge. Something at least.

Ah well

It is different for different people and different causes and depending on how serious it is.
If you don't have any of that it is probably only a mild infection but you will still need antibiotics.
