Eye drops? - January 29th 2009, 09:37 AM

So I'm pretty sure I have conjunctivitis, and I took eye drops this morning to help my eyes get better but when I took them it felt like it went down to the back of my throat and I could taste it in the back of my mouth.
Is that possible or meant to happen? It felt a bit...strange to say the least and now I'm worrying that somethings wrong other then with my eyes. I know it's possible for fluids to go from the eyes to the nose isn't it, but it's not meant to be able to transfer to the mouth too is it? Please don't say go to the doctors because that's what I was trying to avoid doing in the first place, just wondered if anyone had some kind of idea about this?
Confused. My visions also gone funny since my eyes started hurting and I can't see things far away properly but I read that this was something that sometimes happened with conjunctivitis?

I'm not entirely sure about this, but I think if it can go to the nose, then it can go to the mouth/throat, considering they are connected.

I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Unless you know for sure that you have conjunctivitis, I highly recommend that you visit the doctor and stop using the drops. I know it's not what you want to hear, but self-diagnosis isn't a good idea at all. Especially not when it's based off of information that you got online. A lot of it tends to be wrong information, though it's entirely possible that you have it.

I've had it before and the main symptoms for me were the red eyes, yellowish discharge and sticky eyes. I also had pain, sensitivity to light and awful vision. (I have astigmatism, so it just made it worse. ) Here is some information if you'd like to read up on it: Click here.

As for tasting it in your mouth, I've personally never experienced that. =\

Thanks for the responses, I had/have the same symptoms as you did, red eyes and in the night fluids coming out and then waking up the next day with sticky stuff around my eyes. My eyes were really sensitive to the light, and I can't see far away very well. My eyes are a lot better now, even though I still can't see distance wise all that well. I only used the drops a few times, and got the same taste in my mouth after...
