How to deal with stress? - January 28th 2010, 10:18 PM

Hello all, I'm new I didn't know whether to put this under the anxiety sub forums as I think the roots of my problem is from stress related rather than anxiety itself. Anyway I have been under a lot of stress lately with University work - the amount of work and my inability to achieve good grades (lack of confidence I guess). I usually manage to stay on top. But today I woke up anxious, I feel a bit shaky and even talking in a group of people I know I was so anxious (normally I am confident at least), I ended up going home early because I was just so shaky... I have somewhat calmed down now, but I still feel 'alert' and 'jiggly', what's up with me? What can I do do de-stress? Thank you x

Hey there.

Stress can be a really hard thing to deal with sometimes. Some of the best ways to relieve stress are to take a bit of time for yourself each day and do something you enjoy. It can be playing a sport, reading, watching a television program, anything that you like. It gives you a way to relax and just kind of put aside everything else that's going on in your life.

As for the problems with coursework, don't be afraid to talk with your professors and get some extra help. Everyone needs that sometimes. Another thing I would suggest is to make yourself a schedule for when you're going to study, sleep, be in class, have free time, etc. If you already have it planned out, trying to fit your studies and everything in each day will be one less thing for your mind to worry about.

And the last thing I wanted to add is to talk with people about what's going on. Sometimes just talking about what's stressing us out can help make it a little more bearable.

I hope you are doing okay right now. You can PM me anytime.
