Painful Gums = Widsom teeth? - February 6th 2010, 12:18 AM

For about 2 weeks now (could be more or less) I've noticed the gums on the bottom left side of my jaws were quite swollen. At the last molar it's just as high as my teeth & swollen on the side as well. The pain's not that bad & only really noticeable when I eat. My mum says it's just my third molar growing in, I looked it up on the internet & apparently sometimes they don't grow in straight & disrupt other teeth. I still haven't seen it break the surface of the gum either. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I don't have insurance so I'm not too keen on taking it to the dentist but should I?

Wisdom teeth take agggges to grow through, I've been waiting since last september for mine to grow through.

It started hurting in september for a few days, and then stopped, started again a few weeks after that, and stopped again, then I noticed it was quite lumpy, then it started hurting and felt like it was pushing through, the first point came through, and then dissapeared, and now, in early feb i have two points lol.

I wouldn't worry about it until they actully come through, many people have them removed, my dad had all four removed, and my mam had two removed.

Hmm...funny coincidence. I've been having a pain in my gum on the back right side for the past few days, but I know I have all of my adult teeth. It mostly happens when I yawn. Almost like some kind of muscle pain. Could this just be a growing pain? I'd get it checked out (I'm due for a teeth screening anyway) but I have no dental insurance and my parents are REALLY short on money right now.

Edit: Now that I think about it, it's actually my jaw. Probably a totally different issue!

It could certainly be your wisdom teeth. There are very very few people who ever have them come in right. They either never come in or they need to be removed. I had to get mine out a couple years ago because they were going to be growing in crooked.

If you're really worried about it, or if the pain gets too bad, visit your dentist.

Could also be gingivitis or some sort of infection
