Changing doctors? - February 16th 2010, 01:11 AM

Hey so...I'll just keep this pretty simple w/o giving too much info.

My parents aren't so well off financially and it looks like our new medical plan that we'll be on as of March will possibly skyrocket above what we would be ble to afford. If this happens, we may decide to go with Kaiser. How does one go about changing doctors? Can a teen interview physicians as parents would for their newborns? (I am pretty sure I don't want a female...)

Well, you probably have to figure out if your current doctor is going to be supported by your new insurance company. If not, finding someone new will be up to your parents. You can talk to your parents about what you would like, but it's ultimately their decision.

He is, we have checked. According to Kasier though it sounds like YOU get to choose your own doctor and they seem to be cool with me choosing somebody (we talked about it last night).

They probably do have certain stipulations. Look into it and make sure you won't have any problems. For instance, some insurance companies say you can only go to certain hospitals (Target's insurance is a good example - I got injured at work and was only allowed to go to the hospital I would usually never set foot in). Take a look and make sure there isn't anything that would change drastically.

Well w/ Kaiser insurance you get Kaiser services. So I would use Kaiser's hospitals for any emergency care.

Anyhow, I most likely don't have to worry about it right now because we're going with an insurance policy and we can use any doctor that is a member. If that makes any sense...

Anyway, I can keep my same doctor for now
