Underweight and prone to sickness. - February 17th 2010, 05:47 PM

I hope this is the right board for this... it's not an eating disorder though.

This is not about me, it's about my girlfriend. She's 15, 5'3"-5'4" [Edited by Asylum]. (she just checked with a sweatshirt on and everything) I'm very positive this is underweight.

The thing about her is, she's really prone to sickness. She gets headaches often, and gets sick more often. She's home sick from school today because she had a horrible headache and then when she tried to take medicine, she threw it up. In just four months of our relationship I think this is the third time it's happened. And even before we were dating, (she's my best friend!) she got food poisoning over popcorn her cousin ate. Her cousin was fine, she threw up all of the next day.

...I'm kind of worried about her health. She eats just fine, and like any regular person. Honestly, she eats a lot. And never gains any weight. She's naturally VERY pale, and I'm just worried for her.

Is this normal? Or no?

It obviously isn't normal. I would suggest you ask her if she would go and see her doctor. Tell her you're concerned about her. They would know what's wrong with her, and do some tests to make sure things are alright.

The thing is, I can't. :/ We're in a long distance relationship. I asked her, and she said she couldn't remember the last time she went to the doctor.

Just does anyone have any idea what is this...? I just hope everything is okay.

Re: Underweight and prone to sickness. - February 21st 2010, 04:09 PM

I'm underweight(naturally) and prone to sickness too. However, it's not so bad as i'm maturing..i get headaches a lot, but the nausea seems to be subsiding for now. When i was younger i would get sick a lot as in tummy bugs and constantly not be able to keep things down which made the weight issue worse. Now i can pretty much eat whatever i want, although occassionally i will be sick due to something i've eaten.

I've been for lots of scans and tests and pretty much the only thing they found with me was that i was anemic, which could be the case for your girlfriend. It could be other vitamin deficiencies as well so it's best she gets a check-up at the doctors.

& it's just like she's in another world.

I'm going to have to agree with Lisa. I'm underweight as well.
Only thing they could find was that im anemic.
Its best to go to the doctors, so you know for sure.
