Bleeding more than usual - April 18th 2010, 02:22 AM

So recently I have had HORRIBLE pain during sex, so I went to the doctor last week, had a physical, and I go for an ultrasound next week. The doctor said it could be a cist or something, but she wasnt too helpful, and said I should just wait to see if anything comes up in the ultrasound.

I messed up my patch this month (birth control patch), and my period came. I just had my period about 2.5 weeks ago, so its very early.

Is it normal to get your period twice in one month if you mess up your birth control?

Also, this period is wayyyy heavier than normal... Extremely heavier (dont want to go into too much detail, but lets just say I've gone through 2-3 times more tampons than usual, and I've only been on this period for 3 days...

Do you think it is just because I messed up my birth control, or is it possible to bleed if a cist pops or something?

Any info would be helpful... Im not sure if I should go back to the doctor or just wait it out until the ultra sound.

I had abnnormal bleeding with the pill, and the first thing my doctor asked was if I'd missed any. Missing or messing up birth control throws out the balance of hormones that work to stop you bleeding, so you may get an irregular bleed. And it can often be much heavier ...
Personally I'd say that's the most likely explanation, and I'd wait for the ultrasound. But if you're still really worried, go back and ask your doctor

Messing up your birth control can cause your period to come sooner and can cause it to be heavier than usual. There shouldn't be anything to worry about, but if you want to make sure call or see your doctor again.
