Not sure what I should do about this - May 3rd 2010, 11:32 AM

I've been on my period now for nearly 3 weeks :/ It started on 15th April and it normally only lasts a week, but for some reason it's just kept going. It was pretty light at first and it I kept thinking it was stopping, only it didn't. And it just got heavier this morning which is annoying to say the least.

I can't think why it would be going this long, it's never happened before and I've been having my period for years. The only change in my routine I can think of is that I started taking these herbal pills that were supposed to help clear up my acne. I wouldn't have thought that they would effect it but I've stopped taking them just incase. Should I go to see a doctor about this? I don't want to book an appointment if it's something completely normal.

Call your doctor. While it's normal for the length of your menstrual cycle to vary a little bit if you're bleeding for almost a month there is something that may need to be addressed. I would call the doctor, tell him the problem and about the pills and see what he thinks. Also did you research these herbal pills, to look up any possible side effects? Hope this helps.

Yeah I think I'll call my surgery tomorrow and see if I can speak to an on duty doctor or something. I don't think there were any mentioned side effects, the only thing it said was to not give them to pregnant women or use if you were breast feeding. I got them on the reccomendation from my neighbour who had got them for her daughter to deal with her spots. Thanks for the advice

I dont think that it is something major to worry about. I would still talk to a dr to see what can be done. My sister used to have her periods all over the place. Like she wouldnt get her period for 3 months but then she would have her period for 2 months straight. She ended up talking to her dr who recommended that she go on birth control to help regulate her periods. That helped her. So dont freak out- its more of an annoying thing than anything serious but i would make an appointment to see a dr.

Definitely see a doctor. There's no reason you should have to put up with that-time-of-the-month for so long!
