Question Knees=Owch.... - May 7th 2010, 01:35 AM

Hola .

So. For the past two and a half weeks (and on and off again for the past half of a year) my knees have really, really, really, really hurt. Especially in the past two weeks... a couple of times, while I was driving my car, or riding my bike, or sitting at my desk in school it'd be super-duper bad. I don't know if I should tell a doctor about this, or not. My mom seems convinced that they're growing pains, but I don't know. Like I mean, it really hurts. And I've had a sort of history with knee issues. Like, when I was in first grade, I had stress fracturs and a crack in my knee cap along with tendonitis. So, should I get this checked out or wait for a week or two to see if it persists, or even then should I just let it go?

Also, what should I do to make it stop or at least not hurt so much?

Hey,

If you're in serious pain, which it sounds like you are, I'd get it checked out! No point in staying in pain--and it doesn't seem like it's going to spontaneously get better. Plus, you have a history of knee pain, so it would be good to have a doctor look at it.

In the meantime, ice your knees when they're hurting--ice does wonders. Also, make sure you are wearing shoes with good support, like sneakers. My knees always get worse when I wear sandals or flip flops, though it's hard to resist! Hope you feel better soon!

I had troubles like this, painful knees on and off for several years, but mine were inflamed, but at first I just kept getting told it was growing pains by doctors but recently they diagnosed me with arthritis. So yeah, it would be best to get it checked out.

Also, when it's painful try heat, not too hot though, and if it's inflamed then you should use ice, but not for too long at a time. I would also recommend investing in some sorbofane insoles for you shoes. Also look for some knee support and do small exercises often.
