Having trouble getting myself to exercise - May 20th 2010, 04:30 PM

I have a few extra pounds I'd like to lose. In addition, I'm really out of shape in general. However, even though I know my lack of exercise isn't helping things, I have a hard time getting myself up to do it. So far I have found it impossible to stick to any exercise routine. I don't have a car yet so getting to the gym is never regular. I lack exercise equipment at home. I hate running, even though it's supposed to be really good for you. I kinda wish I had a treadmill but they're really expensive.

Also, I have an issue with eating junk food - I eat WAY too much junk. I've stopped drinking energy drinks, which is a start, but I have a lot of trouble getting myself to change my diet so that it's healthy.

Basically my problem seems to be that I can get motivated sometimes but it's really hard for me to stay motivated. Can anyone share some advice with me on motivating myself to exercise?

Well I struggle doing exercise as well but I bought Just Dance for the wii and it's a really fun game but it really does make you exercise.

Also, how about swimming? It's fun and it's one of the best exercises there is.

Basically, what my doctor told me is.... don't exercise to lose weight, do it because its good for your body to stay healthy and in shape. I ride my exercise bike everyday because its good cardio and makes my legs not so flabby looking. According to the bike, I burn a whole 20 calories doing it.

Exercising and eating junk food won't do anything for you because exercising doesn't burn nearly enough calories. You really need to focus on what you are eating, because you need to be burning more calories that you are taking in a day. So either stay full on fruits, veggies, lean meats, etc... or go to taco bell, get one taco, and then stop eating for the day Good luck.

I find it hard to get myself to exercise too. I don't do it as much as I should now but when I do try to during the holidays, I get my sisters to do it with me.

It helps to have someone else exercising with you. That way you'll be both entertained and motivated. So try doing some exercise with a friend. As Cara suggested, swimming's fun and effective too.

I agree with Jasper, getting a friend or family member to exercise with you helps. It makes it more fun and you can both support eachother. As for the healthy eating side, try and find healthy meals that are simple and appeal to your tastes. Look at cookbooks and magazines for ideas. I hope this helps.

Have you tried rollerblading? It's lots of fun and you burn a lot of calories doing it. I love rollerblading but I can only do it maybe half the year! Silly snow.

Stop buying bad food and it won't be around for you to eat. And how far away from the gym do you live?

Also if you don't like "running" (which typically means running at a relatively slow pace for a long time, can't blame you for hating it) try sprints.

Try taking up a activity like self defense or some martial arts clubs like judo, BJJ, karate etc. It helps alot cuz ure having fun while excercising , ur doing it with other people and ur learning all sorts of new things. Mabey even later on you might just find that ur enjoying it and would like to take it to the nextlevel such as compitionsand stuff. And the people at the clubs become like ur second family who support youand evrything. Hope that helps
