Arrow Needle Marks? - June 16th 2010, 11:16 PM

I get stuck between 1-4 times a day four days during the week... I only have two 2, sometimes 3 veins that are good so It's almost always the same spot! I've been using anti-biotic, like neosporin, so It doesn't scar up and heals faster. I think It might be making the sites... More sensitive? It's getting to the point where sometimes I just don't want anyone to draw on me. Is there anything else I can use to make it heal faster and keep the sites clean?

Um, I'm in school to be a phlebotomist. Also known as the person who draws your blood at the hospital. I'm not just sticking myself for kicks.

Yeah, I'm having people draw my blood and then I do the same. This is so I can treat patients in a hospital and test your blood for pathogens and various tests. The least I am doing is drugs. All I want to know is if someone can recomend me another medication so I DON'T look like a heroine addict when I'm done... Jeez.

Hey Holly,

First thing you can do is ask other phlebotomists who have graduated what they did at that part of your training.
Second thing is Vitamin E cream or mederma to help with your cuts.

Vitamin E cream? I've only heard of neosporin. But like I said I think It makes me sensitive.

Vitamin E cream helps scars and helps prevent scarring. You could also try using less Neosporin.

Bio-Oil?
I've heard that helps with scarring...not positive though.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

You can also try something with shea butter in it. I believe that's meant to strengthen skin and help fade scarring.

I get this even from one draw when I have blood tests ... I usually use cocoa butter which sort of helps, it's the best thing I've found for me but to be honest it's not great either. I think you may just have to ride it out - which I know is not a great or desired answer ¬_¬
