Teeth! :'( -
June 21st 2010, 05:24 PM
basically i am an absolute IDIOT. argh im such an idot it annoys me!!!!!
I had braces on about 2 years ago now my teeth were so nice when i got them off but i when i wore my retainer it really hurt and i couldnt sleep so i took them out and lost them, i was too scared to tell my mum because they cost £40 EACH to replace, she would of killed me, even though they found out in the end when it was too late. Now, my teeth are not what they should be, my bototm row are horrid and urgh they get me so down, when i look at pictures of other people thats all i notice, it gets me down bas style at times, i know i should get over it. But i want to know is there anything i can do? My mum doesn't understand things like this, and whenever i try to talk to my nan about it (she's the one who deals with everything in our family), i get a huge lump in my throat and get really upset.... Because my mum has to claim benefits because she cannot work because of her disabilities, could i get them on again for free? :/ i will do whatever it takes, but i dont have £1000!!!! xxx |

I think the best thing would be for you to speak to your orthodontist about it.
I had braces a few years ago and I wore my retainer no more than twice, for the same reason you gave: It was painful and uncomfortable but I was lucky enough to have a really good orthodontist who, when he realised my retainer didn't fit anymore during one of my 6 week checks, just bent it in half and put it down as a repair so I didn't have to pay for it. Obviously getting new braces again is a whole other story, but like I said, speak to your orthodontist, there might be something he/she can do for you. Maybe if you paid for new retainers, you'd be able to wear them and stop your teeth from getting any worse. Either that or you just learn to accept that your teeth aren't perfect. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, nobody's perfect, it's life. I hope it works out for you though, speak to your orthodontist, maybe talk to your mum and gran about it too and see what they think. ![]() Good luck

Hey, my issue is similar although i've worn my retainer literally every day for a year since getting them off. Although my bottom row have receeded back a little and are squashed together, so my orthodontist said he will 'drill' them into a better position in my next appointment. I have no idea what this procedure is, but it might be worth talking to your own orthodontist about it. Hopefully you won't have to pay for any further treatment, as if you explain to them your financial situation i'm sure they can put you on a waiting list under the NHS.
Take care. & it's just like she's in another world. [<3] |
