I'm not sure if I'm following the time line... You had a period 6 months ago, then you went on the pill... did you have periods while on the pill? Or are you saying 6 months ago is when you went off the pill and that's when you had your last period?
I would ask you if you're sexually active, because you can have some bleeding when you're pregnant, but if you've always only gotten your period every 5-6 months, that sounds like a serious health problem. Unfortunately only a doctor can help you there. |

OP, can I ask what symptoms you had whilst on the pill that you didn't like? Because there are a number of different brands and just switching brands might have solved those symptoms. Obviously, you don't have to go on the pill if you don't want to, but it's really good at regulating periods and you don't have to worry about when it's going to come. The thing is some girls don't ever get regular periods. It's uncommon, but it does happen. If you are worried about fertility or anything like that, I would recommend seeing a doctor, but other than that, it shouldn't be anything to worry about. If your periods used to be regular and are now irregular, I would be concerned, but since they've always been irregular, don't worry about it. Hey there. (:
Have your periods ever been regular at all? I wouldn't worry if they have never been regular. We're all different and it does take time to settle into a regular cycle. Did you have a regular cycle at all when you were on the pill? You could switch what pill you're taking, as it has already been suggested. If you're worried about anything I would recommend seeing your doctor. Your irregular cycle could be caused by a number of things, or it may just be that your body hasn't settled into a regular rhythm just yet. Feel free to PM me if you need anything. |

So you stopped taking the pill 6 months ago and had a period then? Or you had a period 6 months ago and are still on the pill. If its the latter, that's normal depending on which kinda pill you're on. If it's that you simply have periods once every 6 months then that can be normal too and sometimes it takes a while to remove all traces of the hormones in the pill from your body. IF it bothers you that much, I would recommend seeing a doctor - I know you say you have personal reasons but going to a local family planning or OB/GYN can really help clear things up. Plus it can rule out any odd reasons for it. Does this sort of ting run in your family? 'Cause that can contribute too.
My mum is a family planning nurse and trust me, they're very helpful and understanding - and more often than not they're more helpful than docs as they're specialised in it

I think I understand what you're saying. If you have never had a 'regular' cycle, than most likely... this very large time frame is in fact your regular cycle.
It does happen. Having a cycle like that can very much affect fertility, so if you are worried about that at all, you should definetely be going to see a doctor. |

Okay, the reason that the pill gave you such bad symptoms was most likely because your body was getting used to the hormone change. You should really stay on the pill for a couple of months to let your body adjust. If you were still experiencing the headaches etc. after a few months, then it would be better for you to change brands. If you want your periods to be regulated, I really think you should go back on the pill and stick with it for longer.
As for the fertility issue, I get that it isn't a problem for you now. But the thing with fertility issues is that they get worse the longer you leave them. There's no point going to a doctor only when you decide to have kids because it might be too late by then. I would really recommend that you go now and get yourself checked out rather than leaving it until later in life. Dreaming about the day When you wake up and find That what you're looking for Has been here the whole time. |
