Wisdom Teeth -
June 30th 2010, 08:25 AM
I have all 4 wisdom teeth (hooray) and they're beginning to start to pain me. For those who have them and are in pain, had them removed or kept them, how long did you wait until you got them pulled out? When I last saw my dentist, all 4 are correctly aligned but there's very little space between them and the back of the jaw. Also, when you got the pain, was the onset pretty rapid and constant? If you got them removed, did you wait until they broke through the gum or did you get them removed while still below the gum? If you got them removed, was it at the dentist office or at a hospital? I'm debating about doing it at the dentist because they can but everyone I've talked to got them removed at the hospital. Lastly, if you got them removed, were you able to work or go to classes the next day? Many say they didn't but has anyone?
Please don't tell me to see the dentist soon because I'm going to see them tomorrow (Wednesday) or latest Thursday as there's some other very pressing stuff also being taken care of. |

I've had mine removed not because i wanted to but, because the army wont let you deploy with them in. My wisdoms hadnt broken through my gum's yet and they were done at the dentist office, i didnt go to work or anything for about a week after though because the pain meds they put me on. You'll be ok.

I got mine taken out about a year and a half ago. I got it done at the dentist's office, simply was given an injection to numb the entire area whilst the procedure took place. I also had all four and got them taken out pretty close to when the pain started being noticeably consistent (I had a lot of jaw pain + a lot of pain in my ears + headaches). I believe the worst part had to be after the procedure had taken place... about half hour to an hour later, all their numbing medication wore off, and it killed. But I was prescribed vicodin and also told to take an advil every four hours for the pain. I don't see why you'd want to go to work or school so soon after or how anyone could manage, to be honest. Even if you managed to get past the pain (and the loopy depending on how pain killers affect you; one of my sister's friends had an amusing reaction to the medication she was prescribed
), you're still swollen as hell and there was no way I was going out like that. But I was also in a lot of pain so pretty much wanted to spend time in bed, taking pain killers regularly and icing regularly, as well. The third day seems to be the worst, but after that, the pain starts lifting and you start going back to normal. I had stitches where my bottom two teeth were taken out, so I had to take extra precautions and the stitches had to be left in for a bit longer, but getting them out was one of the best feelings in the world, haha. It felt amazing to start eating solids again too. During the period where I could only eat liquid mush, however, milk became my saviour and I often preferred chocolate milk to eating soup or something like that.
