Colon cleansing - July 2nd 2010, 09:46 PM

Gross topic, I know, but a friend of mine swears by it and he's a big health buff.

Does colon cleansing really help you to lose weight and the mental stuff that it claims to help cure? And are there any side effects I should worry about?

No. The human body does not work that way.

I don't honestly believe in colon cleansing. Some people say it helps but I think a lot of it is the placebo effect. Also you have to be realllly careful because some of the products can harm your body. I heard about one in particular (can't remember the name of it right now) that caused a lot of people to have anal leakage problems for weeks after. I especially wouldn't order anything you see online because a lot of that stuff isn't even FDA approved and you really have no idea what's in it. If you're really interested in doing it, talk to your doctor first.

I think that different things work for different people. There are so many different types of colon cleanse, but I personally think if you get one with out all sorts of chemicals and do your research then you should be okay. Just try to avoid something that is basically just a laxative, because that could cause problems.

I'd suggest you talk to your doctor about it and see what advice they give.
