Milk - February 16th 2009, 04:43 PM

What milk should a teenager/young adult drink?

I've always drank 2% but I just bought some 2% from the store and it tastes kinda weird ... Like it's been baby-fied?

Cheers,

Your milk shouldn't taste weird...are you sure it was good? Or maybe you're just getting sick of milk; I used to drink milk non-stop when I was younger, and now I gag at the taste of it. I think I drank so much I just got really sick of it, lol. I don't think there's specific guidelines for teenagers drinking milk; the only thing you have to really worry about is that children under the age of 2 should not be given full fat milk.

I don't think it matters what type of milk you drink?
All I know is when you're a child, you have to drink that special milk otherwise it can make you ill.

My milk is good until March =)

And yeah, I gag sometimes too because I used to drink a lot. I was just wondering why this milk tasted different ... Maybe different brands?

I only have milk with tea or with cereal. If you want to stay healthy you could always drink the semi skimmed..? I think eggs are a good source of calcium or cheese etc. Look around the net ot should give you a few tips.

I would suppose it isn't a big deal, but it would depend on what else is in your diet. If you're getting a lot of fats already, go for a lower percentage.

I used to drink 2% quite regularly and I too found that it ended up tasting...weird? after awhile, I switched to skim milk and i don't drink it as often now, and i haven't seemed to have a problem since.

If it tasted different, it was probably contaminated with bacteria or had gone acidic, or possibly separated into its components.

Certainly the healthiest kind of milk would be *soy milk* !

Seriously, commercial soy milk provides the protein and calcium without the saturated fats, pus, and hormones found in regular milk.

Re: Milk - February 17th 2009, 07:01 PM

Honestly, it depends. Some people, such as those who are at higher risks for bone problems or autoimmune issues, are told that Vitamin D (though it can increase your cholesterol) can help with some of these issues due to some of the qualities it contains that are removed from other milks.

This is actually quite a debate on what is "healthiest." The best thing I would do is to see your doctor and ask what would be best for YOUR situation and physical condition.

(I drink Sweet Acidopholis, or I did before I was told to stop consuming dairy due to GI issues.)
