Bruising stupidly easily... - September 19th 2010, 09:47 AM

Well, to begin with it was just my legs and arms that were bruising easily. Now my thighs/the backs of my legs, my back, my shoulders, and more or less everywhere is bruising easy. I have lost weight recently, which is why I'm not so happy about seeing my doctor about this.

Does anybody have any ideas about what it is or why it's happening? I will see my doctor if I really have to. xD

Hey Marie

This may sound really weird; you don't have a heart condition do you? Some heart conditions can cause this exact effect - I know you could play punch my Dad (not hard at all) and he will be black and blue the next day.

Or, randomly, cramp can cause bruises - although I doubt you get cramp in your shoulders :/

Maybe ask the doctor?

Hi Marie,
It sounds like you're bruising because of your weight loss. That might not be the only reason, but being underweight or not eating enough can often make you bruise more easily, amongst other things it does to your body. Maybe it's something to do with not getting enough iron or something.
There may be other explanations, but since you mentioned weight loss that was what came to mind. Your doctor might be able to explain it better.

I do have a heart condition, but it's never effected me this way before. I know it *could* be my weight, but I doubt it is because I've been down to this weight before and it's never done this to me. I really don't know now. xD I'll ask my doctor and my heart consultant!

I bruise insanely easy as well, and it's worth getting blood work done for any deficiencies or blood clotting problems. Low iron or b12, and in relation to those anemia can cause bruising as well as issues with blood clotting. It can also be a sign of certain illnesses. My best guess is that it's from your weight loss. Despite having been the weight you are now in the past, losing weight too fast or in a way other than gradually with healthy eating and exercise can cause this problem. I developed my easy bruising when I lost a lot of weight over the course of two months after having jaw surgery and ever since then it has been an issue. Then again, some people just bruise easily!
Seeing a doctor is something you should really do. You may be concerned since you've lost weight, but this is something that is a symptom of many things and having it checked out is a smart decision.

I bruise easily also. It's due to a medical condition of mine though called E.D.S. (I have Classical so it's not that dangerous)

I also bruise easily, so I went to the doctor and I'm going to have a bloodtest on wednesday. Did you ever check your blood? There are serveral illnesses, which can cause bruises, but they don't have to be dangerous (e.g. von-Willebrand-syndrome). You should have a check.

I went to see my doctor yesterday. Nothing too exciting happened, because I didn't tell him. xD Thread closed.
