Hit my head - October 10th 2010, 09:47 PM

I smacked the back of my head really hard on the side of my bed while I was trying to lie down. It hurt like crazy for a couple of minutes, and then the pain went away a little. Then I got a headache and started feeling light-headed, so I took a nap. The headache's gone, but it's still sore and I still feel dizzy. The bump feels about the same size as it did when I first hit my head, and now I'm feeling a bit nauseous. It's been about three hours. Should I be concerned?

I'm no medical expert, but maybe you could have gotten a concussion? If you did then you should see I doctor I think.

Hey

Since you have already taken a nap, it sounds like you will be fine.

I recommend icing the place and keeping an eye on the bump. If you still feel dizzy in a couple of days, you should go to the doctors.

Take care,

Kitty.

NO, NO, NO!

ANYTIME you hit your head and it results in dizziness and nausea, it is extremely important that you go to the Emergency Room!

I went to school for and worked as an EMT (emergency medical technician) and that's one of the cardinal rules of accidents!

Tell your parents and see if they can take you to at least see your regular doctor!

I would go to the doctors ASAP. If someone is suspected of a concussion, the first thing to do is get them for treatment and to be examined. To the OP, ask your parents or try to get yourself to the doctors. If you don't have a concussion or if it's a very minor one, it's better safe than sorry.

What in the hell? If you feel nauseous 3 hours after the incident, taking a little nap will not make everything better!

I hit my head pretty severely a couple months ago and that is what I got told by someone. I had nausea, dizziness, pressure in my head, etc.

I think if you can get to the doctor then I would go. It could be nothing, but it could be something and it's better to get checked out just in case.

I hope things are well, take care!

Talked to my parents last night, and they said they'd take me to the doctor if it still hurt today. And I feel fine, so I guess I'm all right.

Well, nausea is a symptom, but it could be unrelated to hitting your head. Are you stressing out about it and that could cause the nausea? Usually the headache wouldn't go away either.

Personally, I would have waited it out too. Yes, these are symptoms but it also depends on the impact. I would be concerned if you do hit your head or get into a car accident shortly after this incident though.

probably don't have a concussion, if you do its really minor, but you should still go get it checked asap

If someone said that after you hit your head 3 hours ago or even a few days ago, they know next to nothing for medicine, especially neurology and brain damage. Even if it results in nothing, it still should be checked out.
