Laser eye surgery - October 16th 2010, 01:49 PM

Has anyone had it done? Was it effective? Does anyone know of anyone who had it done where it went wrong? :/

I'm thinking of having it done in a few years. I'm just wondering what the success rate is. I obviously don't want it to go wrong and be... well, blind :/

Re: Laser eye surgery - October 16th 2010, 02:00 PM

My mom had it done when I was I think 15? So when it first was introduced. They were still trying to work out kinks I think, so she was in EXTREME pain, she would wake up screaming and crying in the middle of the night for a good 2-3 weeks. All she did was sleep. We couldn't have blinds open, because her eyes were sensitive to the light, and still are a bit. However, she is no longer wearing glasses. She can't see far away though. but, like I said it was several years ago, so you never know, all this might be sorted out and stuff.

Sorry if this made no sense, I'm sure you understood me though :P

Hey Ceilidh,

I personally haven't had it done, but I do know someone who has gotten it done. It went very well for her and now she no longer needs glasses or contacts.
Over here in the US, the success rate for it is about 92 to 98 percent.
If and when you decide to do it, make sure you go to the best place possible and share your concerns with whoever will be performing the surgery.

Take care,
Kitty.

Thanks guys hmmm the success rate seems good enough I guess I have to wait until I have a stable job though as it's something like £200 an eye and both of my eyes are as bad as eachother.

Your welcome.

Since you are waiting a few years, I'm sure the success rate will be even higher once you get enough money for it. Technology is getting better and better every day.

Both of my parents had it done... Towards the beginning when they first started it I think.
They were both successful, and they don't wear any glasses or contacts.
My parents even reccomend it to people, so I think it's sounds good...

My Dad had it done a few years agp and he said it was one of the best things he ever did for himself. He had to be careful for some time after, just to let his eyes adjust/heal but that's kind of to be expected.

YOu may be quite a bit more than you expect though. As it will be "from" £200 per eye.... depends on your lense strength, eye shape, lots of factors.

Re: Laser eye surgery - October 16th 2010, 06:10 PM

My cousin had it done a few years ago and said he really regrets it. He said he was given eye drops to use for the first few weeks afterward, but he still needs to use them. Apparently, it's also left his eyes really sore and painful.

My dad had it done when he was a teenager and the technology was new and he had to get it done again a couple of years ago. My sister had it done about a year ago and she says that it's the best investment she has ever done on herself =/ She just had to repose for 2 days.

You can't get it if you have an astigmatism though, and I think that's really crappy.

Re: Laser eye surgery - October 16th 2010, 10:26 PM

My uncle had it done when it just came out (it was paid for by the military). He didn't seem to be in much pain, and it went mostly well. He needs to wear glasses at night though, but he can see perfectly fine during the day.
His eyes were really bad before though, like the same as mine so he was pretty much near blind without his glasses before, so HUGE improvement.
