Unhappy Went to ER today. - February 22nd 2009, 01:26 AM

I woke up this morning feeling fine, as I was getting ready for work I started getting really bad shoulder blade pain when I moved my left arm or when I took a deep breath, I thought it was just cramping up or something, so I went to work...the pain didn't go away. Over the next hour it started getting harder to breath, my whole left arm went numb and I started shaking really bad. My best friend works with me and she started getting really scared and wanted to take me to the ER. I keep putting it off because I have no health insurance at the moment. Well things keep getting worst so I finally agreed to go.

The doctor took my blood and I had a chest X-ray to see if my lung was collapsed. Which it wasn't...

So they said I had bronchitis....and sent me home..

I don't understand, I asked about the numb arm and everything and they couldn't explain it...I haven't coughed or felt like I had a cold at all...I don't understand...

I'm still having bad shoulder pain.

Does bronchitis make sense to you??????

I'm looking up things right now but not getting anywhere on what could be wrong.

The doctor wouldn't even really listen to anything I was saying.

Soreness and a feeling of constriction or burning in your chest
Sore throat
Chest congestion
Sinus fullness
Breathlessness
Wheezing
Slight fever and chills
Overall malaise

Okay the only one that matches is breathlessness....
Only one outta 8...

From what I have experienced with bronchitis it doesn't really seem to add up. I think a second opinion is necessary, and if you are still having shoulder pain it would probably be best to do this as soon as possible. I understand that you may be apprehensive because you do not have health insurance at the moment but anything that effects both your breathing and causes you to have a feeling of numbness should be taken extremely seriously.

Yea I'm going to my local doctor asap if it isn't better by the end of the weekend..

The ER doctor was being such an ass. I told him I haven't been coughing at all...or even feel like I have a cold..and I asked why would my arm go numb? And he just blew me off...I'm so pissed because I'm going to owe like 1,000 in bills now for what? To be treated like shit?

I would get a a second opinion. Some ER doctors aren't really the best around and like to just.. fly through to get patients in and out since ERs are so busy. I'd go for another opinion.

Have you tried going on WebMD.com and using their symptom checker?
It could give you an idea on what to expect and maybe help you decide if you need to go to another place or not right away.

I agree with everybody else that does not sound like bronchitis to me. I've had bronchitis more times than I can count. I does make you feel crummy but the numbness that doesn't add. Up try Webmd symptom checker and see if they come up with anything.
