Ears and lungs are usually the first when coughing and sinus drainage begin. If you're beginning to have ear trouble, the next step would be to try some medications to dry up the mucous (icky, but true) that you're having issues with. Mucinex, Tylenol Sinus & Cold, Advil Sinus, etc.

A humidifier in your room will make it more comfortable to sleep, as well as keeping propped up. This will help prevent you from having the drainage back up into your sinus cavities and ear canals.

If this continues, I would suggest seeing your doctor, especially if you have a history of ear trouble and infections.
