I have REALLY bad period pains! - December 21st 2010, 09:29 AM

Every months as most women do, i have a very painful period. Sometimes it's that bad, that i just cant get up, i get really pale, i sweat up and i cant go to school. The only two methods of helping the pain, is a hot water bottle and period pain tablets. Panadol doesnt work, i have to take one called 'naprogesic' or something with naproxin in it. But sometimes it doesnt work for a long time and i feel like im relying on the drugs. Is there anything else to help?

The first step is to find a simple treatment that works for you. If this doesn't control the pain, talk to your doctor.

Exercise - you may not feel like it, but getting active is a good way to ease pain. Try gentle swimming, walking or cycling.
Painkillers - ibuprofen and aspirin can be particularly effective as they have anti-prostaglandin effects. Take them regularly throughout the day (following the packet instructions), not just when pain becomes difficult to cope with.
TENS - transcutaneous electronic nerve stimulation, or TENS, is widely used for period pains. Small electrodes are placed on the abdomen to stimulate the nerve in the pelvic area in a way that may reduce pain.
This is from ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/physical..._periods.shtml

Also here is another website ... http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/cra...l/a/cramps.htm. Take a look.

I hope this helps

Hey There
Definitly keep doesed up on the old painkillers, hot water bottles are a must!
Have you thought about going on the Pill? That might help lessen the pain - its certainly something worth discussing with your doctor

Since I've been on the pill my cramps have pretty much disappeared bar the odd few

But, comfy clothes, hot chocolate, chocolate, hot water bottle & painkillers for the time being

Some people say that exercise helps too - although if your's are particularly bad then this might not work so well for you.

But talk to your doctor, maybe he/she could prescribe stronger painkillers or something like the pill

Thats right.
I got away with it all and I'm still alive.

As long as hot blood runs through my veins

I know I'm a guy, but when you're girlfriend suffers really badly with them, then you kind of learn how to help out haha

I guess i'll suggest a hot water bottle or a hotpack, and just put it over your back or stomach.
Getting a gentle massage can help too,
Warm drinks, and chocolate (a.k.a Ladies' best friend)
There's a drug called Mefenamic Acid which comes in pills, and deals with menstrual pain, it's fairly helpful. But also, try the pill.
If you have a partner, then cuddles and kisses are always nice

Don't grow up too fast...
Your time is now.

I've been through this too! Not fun at all. :/
When you just start to feel the pain coming on. Drink ginger ale, and eat soda crackers. It always helps ease the pain for me. Works pretty fast too. For me anyway...everyone is different.

I try my best to help, but that doesn't always mean I will be helpful.

I have horrible cramps too, to the point where I stop in my tracks and have to stand there for about 5 minutes because I can't move, or I can't get up from where I'm sitting. I don't know how Midol works since I can't take it, but my mom says that it always helps her. Chocolate always helps distract me from cramps. Sometimes a hot bath helps too.

As someone who had the same debilitating pains, I am a supporter of trying birth control. A low dose really cut my pain down and regulated my cycle. Plus my skin looks great

Thats happened to me before, it was horrible! The doctor said it was just stress, but I doubt it. I'm on the pill and it is amazing. I would never get off it, but it gets expensive.

I recommend avoiding caffeine, lots of water, and pain medication If that doesn't help, then I recommend the pill. It helps out a lot. I used to have very painful cramps and I still do, but the pill helps to minimalize them. It also helps prevent break outs.
