Which ones are healthier: redbull, 5hr shots, rockstar, monster, jolt...?

I wouldn't call any of them healthy, but monster and rockstar are two of my favorites.

Definitely not "healthy" but fine in moderation...
They're all probably the same nutritionwise.
I'm torn on the 5hr energy. The whole little sugar and calories sounds great, but if that's the case, what the heck is in it to make you energized for FIVE hours? So yeah, that one's either the best or worst haha

Re: Energy drinks? - February 6th 2011, 08:30 AM

They're very similar with the slight exception of 5 hour energy. It is true, there's very little caffeine and sugar in it, however, the amounts of vitamins are so high they're 500%+ up to 1200%+ what you'd need daily. If you use them often, there's suspicion it can cause neuromuscular damage, although it's been a while since I looked through the scientific article databases on it so I'll check later to see if this still holds up. So dietwise, it's great because there's no sugar or caffeine loads like the others but there's just insanely high amounts of these vitamins it's not healthy at all for long-term use. Then again, I don't think any are.

There's also a warning on the bottle for a Niacin flush. I've never had one but I've seen it happen and it involves going red in the face, sweating like a beast, heart racing like mad, change in pupil size, spike in fever (probably to 39C+ or 102F+) etc... . If you don't know what it is, it will freak you the hell out and will freak others out potentially leading to them calling an ambulance. It's temporary, will go away by itself and I think all energy drinks have this risk. I think (not sure though) that 5-hour energy has levels of niacin higher than the other drinks, so when a niacin flush hits for that drink, it hits like hell.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

None of them are healthy. I used to drink them but they started making me loopy and anxious :| If you have mental health problems I honestly advice you not to drink them. If you don't then they're okay (not great) in moderation in my opinion.

5 hour energy. IIRC that's a lot more vitamins than caffeine unlike other drinks so it'd be better. None of them are good like everyone else said though.

Energy drinks just seem unnatural to me.
I mean, it's your body and therefore your decision...but it just seems odd. If you really need an energy boost that bad, work out or drink some coffee.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

I like amp, or the black rockstar that is cola flavored.. It's not as sugary flavored.
My coach likes the sugar free rockstars, and they only have like 20 calories-so he says.

I know this'll sound weird, but I'm being completely honest. I have A.D.D. my Dr. actually told me to drink at least one energy drink in the morning, because they calm me down and help me focus. So for me, they are healthy.

I don't know much about energy drinks, but as for 5 hour energy, it seems worse than the rest. I didn't know it could cause neurological damage though, but it does make sense. My health teacher in school said he took one and was literally shaking for the first 2 hours after taking it. He said it was pretty much the closest thing you could take to crack(or any other stimulant) without it being illegal. That stuff messes with your body BIGTIME. And yeah, most of the vitamins are over 1000%, with one being 3100%, or the amount that you need in a month.

Energy drinks make your heart race and blood sugar levels go through the roof. They are packed with caffeine. If its an energy drink its not healthy.

That's like asking which cigarette is better for your lunges.

Re: Energy drinks? - February 17th 2011, 12:08 PM

None of them are particularly healthy.

But I'd say the 5hr shots are the worst as the caffience content in them (at least the ones in my shops) is almost three times the amount that's in the others.

Energy drinks are okay in moderation for some people but it's better to change your diet and get enough rest if you're in need of energy.

Also, I can't speak for everyone since energy drinks will effect people differently but whenever I have one and a couple of hours later the energy wears off I always feel really depressed/angry and have sudden moods changes...which doesn't sound healthy to me.

if you want the healthy energy drink, go with the low-carb kinds or the suger free kinds (i think they have sugar fee kinds) you get that energy drink taste and it might be a bit more healthy then the regular, also if you get the monster import that is better for you then the regular monsters

I wouldn't say any of them were really healthy and that you shouldn't drink a lot of them as nice as they are because you don't know what you're going to be doing to yourself by taking in that much caffeine and whatever else is in them.

like others have said, in reality none of them are good for you. I've mainly only drank Rockstar or Amp but i've never had any like side efffects from them. The one time i've had a 5 hour energy, it made me really really shaky and made my blood pressure spike. So I wouldn't recommend them.

they're all unhealthy.. but so long as you don't drink them on a daily basis i wouldn't worry. unless you have heart problems or other medical issues which means you should avoid them i suppose.

They are all about the same I think. Just don't drink too much. Causes insomnia, headaches, dizziness, ummm.... yea it gave me a nosebleed I'm positive once. Some people say they turn suicidal... and I read a story once of a basket ball player who died of a heart attack on the pitch few minutes after drinking about 8 cans of redbull (probably because of very high blood pressure). Yea and it can give some people epic acne and make you pale faced few hours later so that it's even more prominent. .

2 at once is the most I'd drink... and over a period of maybe 3 hours usually, and not more than once a week. That's about 1 litre.

If you've got some spare time, read this:

But don't if you're easily triggered. If you're not easily triggered then go ahead.

None of them are particularly good for you, but they can be ok in moderation. Just pay attention to the warning labels on them and do NOT drink more than the recommended amount daily. There's a kid that played high school baseball in a nearby town, chugged 5 before a game and had a heart attack on the field. He had to be air lifted to a hospital and now has a pacemaker and can't play sports anymore.

My absolute favorite is the new pink rockstar. Its sugar free and it has no carbs. Its also only 10 calories. And it tastes amazing. =] I don't know that it is necessarily good for you, but it sure tastes good, and hey, like i said, it's only 10 calories! =D
