I think I lost my period. - February 6th 2011, 06:46 PM

I missed my period last month and I think I'm going to skip it this month. I have never had sex so it can't be from pregnancy. I had mono in October and lost some weight, but I've gained it back and I've had my period since then. I was on and off the pill for a bit. I don't think it's stress as my bipolar disorder has never affected my cycle before. What reasons exist that I could have lost my period?

Hey Becca (: I don't know if you had gotten your period recently or a few years ago, because it's perfectly normal for these people to have an irregular period. I highly doubt that this is the reason for it, but perhaps wait to see if you have your period this month. If it doesn't and more concerns arise, talk to a doctor. Or you can talk to one now? Good luck!!

Stress can be a big cause of your period cycle being messed up so if you've been under a lot of stress recently then that could be a reason why.

Also, sudden weight change can mess it up too.

I think that stress can be a huge factor in loss of period. I know you say that that hasn't affected your period thus far, but I don't think it is too late for it to start now.

Cara is right, sudden weight loss could be a factor. This is because it can take your body time to adjust accordingly. And I know from being on and off the pill, that that can screw with your cycle as well. It's best to just either be on it, or off it.

Stress, birth control, and weight change are all factors that can mess with your cycle. Period cycles can take a long time to become regular too, so don't worry. It's perfectly normal

I went about 3 months without my period once

You said you had mono. Sudden weight loss is definitely a key factor in losing your period. Also, stress and being on and off the pill can definitely be reasons. If it doesn't resolve in about 2-3 months, you should head to a doctor.

Hey there Becca, when I was in 8th,9th and 10th grade my period was always heavy and lasted about 8 to 9 days and suddenly I stopped getting my period, I found out it was because of a hormone imbalance and I wasn't making enough of the hormone's that you need to have a period, you may have a hormone imbalance yourself and you'll most likely need to go on the pill or a hormone pill that will help you have a period I take a birth control pill called loestrin, it works well, I agree with Kitty(Strawberries) about seeing your doctor if you don't have a period 2 to 3 months in a row or even sooner.
I hope everything turns out okay for you and that its just stress.
