Vegetarian cookbooks/recipes? - March 1st 2009, 05:12 PM

I've been a vegetarian for about 5 years. I love it, and I don't want to change it. But sometimes I find myself actually craving meat, like cheeseburgers and hot dogs. But I am repulsed by meat and stuff. I think it has to do with the fact I am so bored with what I eat. I eat the same Morningstar farms products (like their veggie burgers and chik'n nuggets) every day it's just boring. I love to cook, but I don't know any fun, vegetarian options that I could make!

I'm kind of picky, but I'll try anything, I think. Any suggestions for any teen-friendly or regular vegetarian cookbooks?

Have you tried searching it on google, or looking in bookshops for vegetarian cookbooks. I am sure there will be tons of books in book shops, or even in your library.

http://www.vegcooking.com/ is a good site, or you can also check out this thread:
http://teenhelp.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6341 and see what has been posted in there. If you go to your local bookstore, or even your local library they will have a wide variety of excellent vegetarian cookbooks for you!

I saw a couple of vegetarian quick-and-easy-meals cook book in some book shops when I went to get a student cook book. It's best just to look around to find out which one is best for you.

Alternatively make non-veggie recipes but take out any meat and replace it with something else maybe?

You should DEFINITELY check this website out:
International Vegetarian Union Recipes Page
It's like a quadrillion recipes without any meat at all. They have a Vegan section, too.

One really easy recipe is lentil stew. Just rinse a bunch of lentils, then boil them in water (just like making oatmeal) and add spices and veggies as you'd like. I usually use ginger and paprika with little pieces of carrot. You can add nuts, too. I like mine with cashews. Sometimes I throw in some raisins, too, if I'm in a sweet mood. Seriously, lentils are the easiest and most versatile thing in the world. Good for you too!
