Waking up with a nosebleed? - March 5th 2009, 08:21 AM

I've never had a nosebleed before in my life, yet when I woke up today, I had one. Is this normal? Or did I accidentally thwack myself in the nose when sleeping? Should I go and get it checked out?

If it's just been the one, then I wouldn't worry too much. You probably just did knock yourself while asleep or something. If you have another or feel at all unwell then I'd go and get checked out by a doctor, just to be on the safe side.

If it keeps happening, it may mean that your nose is dry. So if that ends up being the case, just try nasal spray before going to bed and it should be OK.

If it doesn't continue, then you may have just accidentally bumped yourself.

I don't think it is anything to be concerned about unless it continues in which case the air could be so dry in your house (especially during the winter) that it is causing the nosebleeds. If that is the case then buying a humidifier could help you significantly. Another possible cause could be an iron deficiency. So be sure to take an iron containing multivitamin and moisturize your nose

While totally out there, nose bleeds are also the bodies way to relieve pressure on the brain from things, which is normal.... just a tidbit of info to table...

I think you'll be fine. I wouldn't worry about it unless like everybody said if it becomes consistent
