Tonsillitis :( - March 5th 2009, 10:50 AM

I've got tonsilltis
It's horrible, im struggling to swallow and its harder to breath normally, i also can't talk propery without it hurting..
Along with an extremely soar troat, my glands are swollen down my throat so that makes it even more painful to swallow and stuff..

Anyway enough of feeling sorry for myself. i went to the doctors on tuesday and he said i had tonsillitis, but i think i got it on monday.

how long will i be out for? i've already missed 2 days of school and i dont want to miss tomorrow.. i do feel better than yesterday although it seems my tonsils are bigger today than they were yesterday, is this normal?

Since i've had tonsillitis i've had a headache in the back of my head, so ive had a headache for 3 days straight. Is this normal?

What sort of things can i do to take away the pain? Atm i'm just taking paracetamol.

If you're going on your third day with this headache and the paracetamol isn't helping, I'd put a call into the doctor you saw or their nurse and let them know as well as ask for their advice. Having a headache for that long is awful (I've had them as well) and it will help you sleep easier and heal faster if that is taken care of.

As far as how long will you be out of school? There's no way for us to tell you that, really. Even doctors can't always predict how long a health issue will put the patient out of work or school. It really can only be taken a day at a time and address your health each morning.

It's pretty normal to have a headache. I had tonsilitis 12 times in a year. I missed about a month of school because of it, and I even went to school while I still had it (bad idea). If you can swallow it, I'd say you should drink some ginger tea. You can make it by making green tea, and putting small slices of ginger in it. It tastes kinda bad if you don't sweeten it. The green tea along with the ginger act as a good anti-inflamatory. If you want to go back to school, I think you may want to get permission from a doctor first.
