BCPs? -
May 8th 2011, 10:26 PM
I've been on a generic Tri-Cyclen before, but then I went on Seasonique. I liked the idea of only having 4 periods a year, which I'm guessing most girls do! Anyway, I had problems with spotting, so I stopped.
I've been off of birth control for a few months, but want to get on again before I go off to college. Is there a good one? I know antidepressants can decrease the effectiveness of some. Is an IUD the way to go? Any response is appreciated

Each woman reacts differently to contraceptives, so I encourage you to discuss this with your doctor or whoever provides you with reproductive health care.
An IUD would be great if you are looking for simple, easy birth control. There is are copper IUDs available, and Mirena which is a hormonal option. If your period is an issue for you, you might consider avoiding the copper IUD because there is a chance that it may cause your periods to become heavier, longer, and more painful. There are many women who don't experience these symptoms and are just fine. Users on Mirena might experience the opposite effect- many women have lighter, shorter periods and one in every five women eventually cease in getting their periods at all. On the other hand, it may cause spotting and irregularities in your cycle. You should further look into your options and discuss them with your doctor. Right, so I have a few links for you! Here is the birth control LiveJournal community, and if you look to the right you can search specifically for posts relating to Seasonique. Here is the IUD LJ community. There is a lot lot of information relating to IUDs which you might find helpful in your decision-making process! It certainly helped me and now I am the happy host to one Paragard. :)
