Question Extremely Painful Foot Peculiarity - May 13th 2011, 02:46 PM

Hehe... So it sounds kinda weird, but there's something wrong with my foot... It never caused any problems until about a few weeks ago, and I've had it all my life.
Let me see if I can describe this:
My right foot, on the left side of it, has a bump. It looks like it's the bone of my big toe, and the bone just juts to the side, and it affects the shape of my foot, therefore wearing sandals, heels, or tennis shoes is difficult. Now it's become painful. Touching the bump is extremely painful, and just standing- not touching it, putting more pressure on that foot, or shifting my weight on that foot- is excruciating. My dad, my brother, and my dad's mother have the exact same thing. It's genetic, apparently. But they've never dealt with pain from it. O.o
I asked my dad about it, and he said he's never had any problems, and that I should see a doctor who will get an MRI, and a Podiatrist (sp?) will recommend physical therapy, or surgery!! if it's bad. I'm freaked, and I don't know what to do!!!

If it's jutting out, it's more vulnerable to "damage" isn't it?

I think you probably just kicked something by accident, maybe even in your sleep that might have severely bruised it. Bruises don't always need to be visible. I've had bruises on my knuckles which would hurt as hell but didn't show at all.

It might be fractured actually... given that you describe the pain to be "excruciating". Get a scan done.

If you've got some spare time, read this:

But don't if you're easily triggered. If you're not easily triggered then go ahead.

Yeah, my mom and my dad said that I probably need an MRI. I'm just scared that I might need surgery

What you have is called a 'Bunion'. I have them too, on both of my feet. Although, my right one tends to protrude out farther then the left. Mine have never bothered me on a constant basis, but on occasion, it does tend to be a bit more painful than usual.

It's possibly hereditary, because my mother had them too! Ask your parents if they have them, or maybe grandparents too.

It's not a bad thing to have them, they can just be extremely nervewracking, and they will eventually have to be removed because as you get older, they will become more painful. My mother had her's removed, and she's perfectly fine. She can now wear the shoes she likes to wear; I have never had a problem wearing gym shoes or sandals, although I find them to be ugly, but I'm not bothered by them anymore.

Do a quick internet search of them to find out more information. Also, put ice on it to help ease the pain a bit. This helps when my right foots feels particularly painful

I may wear the glass slippers; But my hero wears combat boots <3 I love you, Lieutenant
