Gas problems? - March 10th 2009, 10:57 PM

It seems like I often have to fart, even after I went to the bathroom. It gets really annoying when I'm constantly farting. I try to go to the bathroom again, but there's not enough feces that's still inside to come out, yet it's enough to release so much gas.

I also feel the need to wash my hands for a long time and use a lot of soap after I wipe...

What do I do to fix this?

Eat foods with less fiber.
Perhaps, talk to a doctor about it and about what foods you should eat/not eat to prevent this.

Well gas is caused by undigested food and drink that hasn't been absorbed, some ways to prevent gas are;

- recording your eating habits, try and notice anything that causes the gas.

- Reducing the amount of air you swallow while eating. Chewing food slowly and eating smaller meals. Quit chewing gum and using tobacco if you do. Avoid fizzy drinks.

- Avoid highly spiced food and reduce your intake of sugar.

- Try eating brown rice and pineapple.

Also, in response to the above post.. It seems like it's actually suggested that you increase your fibre intake to prevent gas, not reduce it.

"Improve bowel function by adding fiber to your diet. Take laxatives as needed to reduce constipation. Try products containing simethicone like Gas-X, Phazyme and Mylicon to break up collections of gas bubbles."

Can you burp? I have a friend who had the same problem only she couldn't burp. Sure, physically she could but not on comand or often. Maybe once every three months.
She had to go to the doctor because something wasn't right (sorry I don't know actually what it was!).

I'll see what I can do. Thanks ladies. I can't stop drinking Pepsi though. Gum is for my breath... I also like some spicy food...

The spicy food and caffeine can make gas and intestinal issues worse. I have IBS, for one, and I can't touch either. They stir up all the inflammation.

I'd see about seeing your doctor.
