Question trouble going to the bathroom when away from home - July 23rd 2011, 03:11 PM

For some reason my body has trouble going to the bathroom while I am away from home in public or semi-public restrooms. I have trouble peeing at times, but almost always pooping. For example, I went to an overnight camp Monday afternoon through yesterday morning and did not poop ONE time. I have since pooped three times in the past 24 hours. What gives this is not healthy not for longer trips for sure.

A lot of people have problems with going to the toilet in a public place.

I think it is a case of making yourself as comfortable as possible with such things.

What is it you don't like about it? The fact other people might hear you? Germs?

If you can work out what it is you are unhappy about, you can work on it.

For example, I never used to use public toilets because of the germs that might be there. So now I carry an antibacterial spray around with me, so that I can clean the toilet seat before use.

Do you think this is a psychological thing or a physical thing? Different activity levels and eating habits could change your body's response. If it is a psychological thing, it is something you can gradually accustom yourself to and that will get easier with less anxiety.

As said, if you can figure out why you have trouble going you might be able to slowly starting working on it because as you've said, I don't think it's healthy if you go away for long trips and avoid using the toilet.

Yeah, you also have to slowly get used to it. I once went about five months without using a public restroom and when there came I time where I had to I couldn't. Eventually I got used to it again

First of all, relaxing is a big part of using the restroom. You may have noticed you don't pee your pants even when you really have to go. This is because you are not relaxed.

I would recomend whistling, or taking deep breaths prior.

I'm always afraid of germs, so I either, as stated by a previous user use spray, or if I happen to have forgot it, I line the seat with toilet paper, if I must sit.
