After His Surgery... - March 18th 2009, 04:09 AM

Ok, my boyfriend is having a hernia fixed. The surgery is a week from tomorrow and neither of us really know what this all involves, like how long he'll be in bed, etc.
But my main concern is that when I first see him after the surgery (not sure how soon I will), not hurting him. Like I'm not sure if I can give him a big hug, if that might hurt him.
Anyway, I'd love to hear from some boys on their experience with this surgery and recovery and stuff. Thanks!

Hey Caroline,
I can't give you any info on a hernia, but when I met my bf he was just about to have spinal surgery, so we were in a similar situation.
I admit I was terrified for him haha, but after the surgery we set up camp in his mums lounge and basically stayed there until he was recovered.
I had to be very gentle with him, but when your bf is in that situation and he is in a lot of pain, you merely being there for him will be all that he needs. Even if you can't hug or anything holding his hand and getting things for him will be more than enough.
Good luck to you both I hope it all goes well

my tennis teacher had a hernia, and he couldn't leave the hospital for about a week - mainly, because he got a cold right after taking his surgery. it really depends on the person, and how strongly they recover from it. but usually, you can make physical contact with your bf in about a day or two, i'm guessing. it won't be long, trust me. though, he will most likely be put on medication that makes him look like he's acting floopy ^^

A hernia isn't a major operation and he should make a pretty speedy recovery. No one can really tell you how much pain he is going to be in, because it depends on a) what pain relief he's given and b) his pain tolerance. When you see him just ask him and tell him you're scared of hurting him and i'm sure he'll let you know :]

..and our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears..
