Bug Bite. - September 26th 2011, 02:30 AM

About two days ago, I got bitten by something. I have no idea what it was. Yesterday, the bite was really small. This morning when I woke up, it was HUGE. It was super red and inflamed too. About halfway through the day, it started to itch really bad. Then, the entire bottom half of my arm started to itch. A couple hours ago, my arm started hurting and it felt like lead. Does this sound like something I should see a doctor for or is it just a normal bug bite? I really don't want to go waste money on a doctor just to be told that it's nothing to worry about. I've never had one this bad before though.

I'm no professional, but maybe you're having an allergic reaction? I've had swollen bug bites, but I've never had it feel like lead. Maybe try some google searches; I know that when I'm worried about my health, I try typing my symptoms in the search bar & it comes up with some pretty good stuff. If it doesn't seem to get better or start to go away or even gets worse within the next couple of days, I would definitely go see a doctor.

It's hard to say really since we do not know what bit you. It could be an allergic reaction, or it may be normal. With some bug bites, it is normal to have minor swelling, itching, redness, and pain.

Though this usually lasts a few hours to a couple days. You can try an ice pack to relieve the swelling and pain.

Perhaps you were itching the bite in your sleep? Try not to scratch the bite.

I'd suggest waiting a day or two. If the swelling and pain are consistent, then go to the doctor.

It may be infected ... I've had the same thing on my foot / ankle and they were infected. If so you might need antibiotics.
Try an ice pack, if it doesn't help keep the swelling down then I'd recommend seeing the doctor. Good luck

Thanks guys. The swelling went down over night, but it came back during the day. It's nowhere near as bad as it was though, so I'm hoping I was just freaked out about nothing.

I'm glad the swelling has gone down! One thing I do is put toothpaste on bug bites, it dries it out and helps reduce the itch.

That may be due to you moving around and brushing against clothing. Keep the ice packs coming and keep an eye on it. Hopefully it will stop swelling completely in a couple days.
