Question Respiratory Attacks? - March 21st 2009, 08:19 PM

Okay I'm having problems and I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or could give me any info/advice.

I'm a runner, I'm very active, and I have been since as long as I remember. In the last week I've had two attacks of some sort and I don't know what to do or what they even are. My chest tightens and it's like my throat closes off. My lungs can't take in enough air and when I do breath it makes a very weezing sound. I don't have asmtha and this has never happened before. I've had panic attacks where I hyperventilate but nothing has triggered a panic attack when this has happened. I'm not out of shape so it's not that. And after the attack and can't fully take in a deep breath until hours later, due to pain and just the lack of abilty to do it. It's really weird to me considering it just started happening now.

I know you aren't doctors, I'm just asking if anyone knows anything about what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance (:

You should go and see your doctort about this.

At first I would've said it sounds like a panic attack but since you've had experience of panic attakcs you'll be able to tell when you're not having one!

You should definitely see you doctor, especially since you are otherwise fit and healthy.

Hope you get it sorted

You should definitely go see and doctor about this. Don't take chances with your breathing. You could be developing asthma or some sort of respiratory infection. I'd go see your doctor as soon as you can.

I second that. Breathing seriously is the most important thing. What you're having happen is puzzling to me personally....

With the time of year it is, you may be developing some kind of seasonal asthma.

I would probably speak to your doctor or the school nurse to see where to go to get to the reason behind the symptoms (the wheezing, chest tightness, etc) and get it treated.
