Unhappy sore, chapped lips - October 27th 2011, 08:56 AM

because of the time of year my lips are horribly chapped and sore can anyone recommend a really good balm or chap stick?
im currently using vaseline with aloe and is not really working all too well
i had the carmex one but the menthol in it stung my lips!

Hey,

You can get Carmex without menthol in it so you could try finding that if that helped before.

You could also try using Blistex, they have a special one designed for cold sores and badly chapped lips and it's very good

I always use Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm, I really love it. I'm not sure how well it would work on cold sores though.

I use the general chapstick because it tastes good and works although it can sting a little at first. I also use vaseline, applying it every hour so I find it does work. To help stop chapped lips you should drink water regulary and make you you are hydrated at all times

You said Carmex stings. A lot? Or a little? Because stinging is usually good. I use it all year round and it stings a little but it's really good. My dad swears by it, he gets coldsores and chapped lips a lot and it's the only thing he's ever found to work. Sounds stupid but maybe the stinging is fighting infections etc? Like when you wash cuts with salt water ...

I'd recommend Blistex. I use the one for cold sores and the one for chapped/sore lips and they work pretty well in my opinion.

Lots of regular chapsticks contain ingredients that can dry out your lips causing you to use more of their product so you have to keep buying more.
Carmex and Blistex are good brands. I love Burt's Bee's because they are mostly completely natural and don't contain harsh ingredients.
Exfoliating your lips with a soft toothbrush and some vaseline can help out well too.

If your lips are really chapping up, then up your water intake.
and I use Lotus lip balm. Every few hours or so. Carry lip balm along with you wherever you go, and keep applying it. It will help. ^^
