Insect bites and Phenergan -
November 11th 2011, 09:02 AM
I got bitten last night, not entirely sure what by but I'm guessing midges as I couldn't see anything when I felt my legs getting bitten. Anyway I now have two great welts on my right leg, which are hot and sore and itchy.
I've been told in the past I'm probably slightly allergic to the bites as the reaction gets pretty bad. I ice them, use a spray for bites and take Phenergan. I've taken Phenergan in the past but have lost the box and it's been a while. Does anyone know the recommended dose? Because I've taken 4 x 25g today already (2 this morning, 2 at lunch) and I need more they hurt so much. Somewhere in my brain I think you're only meant to take 25mg at bedtime ... but earlier wasn't thinking and tookt hem anyway. They don't make me drowsy as they should so that's not an issue. Is something like Phenergan dangerous in large doses?
As a note, I'd go to a pharmacy but they're all closed, and I'm in too much pain to just wait til morning to find out :/

"When promethazine is used to treat allergies, it is usually taken one to four times daily..." www.nlm.nih.gov
"The average oral dose is 25 mg taken before retiring; however, 12.5 mg may be taken before meals and on retiring, if necessary. Single 25-mg doses at bedtime or 6.25 to 12.5 mg taken three times daily will usually suffice." http://www.rxlist.com/phenergan-drug.htm
Hope this helps. I didn't know much about this medicine and I don't think I can rephrase that any better...so I've included the links where I found the information.
